First Beans & Some Peas

Tonight, we picked the first beans of the season.  We also picked a few ‘super sugar snap’ peas, but there won’t be many more peas this year.

The biggest yield of this first picking came from the ’emerite’ pole beans.  The ‘rattlesnake’ pole beans have purple stripes.  The ‘Kentucky blue’ pole beans aren’t ready to pick, but the vines have many flowers.  My planting order along the trellis went ’emerite,’ ‘rattlesnake,’ and ‘Kentucky blue’ from south to north, so the amount of sunlight each type is getting may be the reason for the relative earliness and yields.
